 What is infertility?
 Infertility is the inability of a couple to conceive despite a year of unprotected regular intercourse. If such a couple is under the reproductive age group, it is an indication to get investigated.

 What percentage of couples suffer from infertility worldwide?
 As per WHO (World Health Organization) estimates 8-10% (approx) of couples experience infertility problem. On a worldwide scale, this means that 50-80 million people suffer from infertility.

 Is infertility associated only to women?
 No, it's not only women who are associated with it. Infertility can be due to male, female or combined factors. Roughly one-third of infertility cases can be attributed to male factors and another one-third to women. For the remaining infertile couples, infertility is caused by a combination of problems in both partners (about 13%) or is unexplained (about 10%).

 Can infertile couples become parents?
 With technological advancements with regard to assisted reproductive technologies (ART), such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), ICSI, IUI, available at Moolchand Fertility & IVF, majority of infertility cases are treated successfully.

 What is Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ART)?
 Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ART) are the various procedures used to aid in conception and birth by artificial or partially artificial means. At Moolchand we offer services like intrauterine insemination (IUI), in-vitro fertilisation (IVF), intra cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), frozen embryo replacement transfer (FERT), surgical sperm retrieval and other techniques depending upon your condition and our physician's judgment.

 What is IVF?
 IVF involves collecting eggs and sperm from the female and male partner respectively and fertilising them in a laboratory. Days later the microscopic embryos are transferred into the uterus where implantation and pregnancy hopefully occur, as in a normal pregnancy.

 What is IUI?
 Intra-uterine insemination (IUI), also known as artificial insemination, is the process of preparing and delivering highly concentrated amount of active motile sperms into the uterus to facilitate conception.

 What is ICSI?
 ICSI is a procedure used as part of an IVF treatment, when the sperm count is either nil or very low in the semen or the quality of sperm is very poor. In this process an individual sperm is injected into the centre of an egg to achieve fertilization.

 When should a couple choose IVF as a treatment option?
 Couples may choose IVF under the following condition:
  • The woman has damaged or blocked fallopian tubes
  • The ovaries do not respond to infertility medications
  • The man has low sperm count
  • The man has sperm that does not move well
  • There are immunological factors
  • The woman has significant endometriosis leading to infertility
  • The reason for infertility is unexplained
 What is the success rate of IVF at Moolchand?
 The success rate of IVF depends on the causes of infertility and the age. It is generally upto 30?45% per cycle.

 Does the patient need to get admitted for the IVF process?
 No, there is no need to be admitted in the hospital. You would need to visit the Centre 3-5 times during the monitoring cycle. On the day of egg collection you would need to fast for 6 hours and come to the Centre, the procedure takes about half an hour. You can go home after the effect of anesthesia weans off which takes about 2-3 hours. You would need to visit again after 2-3 days for the embryo transfer. This again takes about half an hour and you are free to go home after one hour of rest.

 What if IVF fails the first time? How many times will I have to undergo it?
 You can go through IVF as many times as you wish but after a gap of 3 months. Most conceptions occur in the first three cycles.

 If I conceive, will my baby be normal?
 There is no increased risk of abnormality in IVF conceived babies compared to those conceived naturally.

 What are the precautions that need to be taken after an IVF procedure?
 There are no particular measures that need to be taken, but any strenuous activity should be avoided. You must try to be mentally and physically relaxed as much as possible. You may return to work if you wish, but a few days rest may be advised. There is no evidence of any extra measures that could positively influence the outcome of your treatment.

Donor

 Which options are available for a couple in which either of the partners could not produce gametes (sperm or egg)?
 For such couples, gamete (sperm or egg) donated by another man or woman is the only hope to enjoy parenthood. At Moolchand, we offer a range of personalized donor programs designed to meet the needs of such couples and give them an opportunity to have their own child.

 What all services are available under the Donor Program at Moolchand?
 At Moolchand we offer a comprehensive range of personalized donor services like egg donation, sperm donation and embryo donation as per your medical condition.

 What is the basis of selecting a donor?
 At Moolchand, all our donors undergo intensive screening process for infectious diseases, drug usage, physical and gynecological examination, psychological assessment as well as a family history assessment. We follow legal guidelines while assisting you in finding the right match.

 How does an oocyte or semen sample get selected for donation?
 To provide you with the best match, physical charecteristics such as blood type, facial features, biotype, etc. are taken into consideration while selecting a sample.

Surrogacy

 How successful is surrogacy?
 The success of surrogacy depends on many factors. However, by far the most important factor is the age of the egg donor. For women below the age of 35, the success is 45-50% per cycle but it declines to 30 ? 40% in women above the age of 35.

 What is the best way to discuss my case with the doctor?
 You can discuss your case and medical details with our physician either through email or we can arrange for a tele-con as per your convenience.

 What is a surrogacy agreement?
 An agreement entered between you and the surrogate making it clear with regard to each of you all's role for performing surrogacy. It consists of all the aspects of relationship between you, the surrogate and the child and also the monetary reward to be paid by you for the service rendered by the surrogate.

 How do we know we can trust the surrogate to carry our child?
 We at Moolchand assist childless couples in finding a surrogate. We have a wide network of credentialed surrogates, who are carefully screened prior to you seeing their profiles. They have at least one child and stay in a stable environment. We keep in close contact with her throughout the term of her pregnancy as well as make psychological support available to her.

 Do you provide any housing facility for the surrogate (and her family) throughout the pregnancy term within your centre?
 We do not provide a housing facility for the surrogates at our Centre but we do provide them with complete medical assistance throughout their term.

 Do I need to undergo any medical tests?
 Both you and your partner need to undergo certain medical tests along with a psychological screening. Some of the medical tests required are mentioned below:

Tests for the husband

  • Screening for HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and C
  • Sperm count

Tests for the wife

  • Gynecological examination with vaginal ultrasound
  • Blood type and rhesus
  • Screening for HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and C
  • Gram stain smear
  • Clinical blood analysis (blood count)
 How much contact will we have with the surrogate mother?
 As much as you and your surrogate wish to have before, during, and after the pregnancy.

 How many trips to the hospital would we need to make and what would be the approximate length of stay?
 Every patients case and its treatment is unique. Thus, our team of physicians would plan your trips to the hospital accordingly.

 Would it be possible to arrange for an interpreter while we are in India?
 To avoid language barriers and ease your stay with us for your treatment, we provide you with an interpreter.

 Can we have a sex determination and selection done?
 As per the Indian law sex determination and selection is a punishable offence.

 Can the surrogacy program be combined with the egg/sperm donor program?

 Can I being a single parent or gay/lesbian couple use surrogacy?
 In this case, we cannot offer the services of our surrogacy program to you, as it is illegal in India.

 Whose name is written on the birth certificate?
 The hospital provides you a birth certificate with your name.
